When it comes to giving out holiday gifts, I love to make homemade gifts for my friends and family. I enjoy spending an afternoon in my kitchen making some delicious fudge, cookies, bars and scones. You can present your homemade goodies in food-safe gift bags, food-safe cellophane bags or you can purchase some food-safe storage tins or containers. Once you have your treats properly packaged, just attach a gift tag and a bow.The following 2 recipes are easy to make and they are a big hit when I give them as gifts.White Chocolate Fudge with Cranberries 2 packages (6 squares each) White Chocolate 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk 1 cup almonds, chopped 1/2 cup dried cranberries 1 tablespoon grated orange peel Line a 8″ square pan with aluminum foil, with the ends of the foil extending over the sides of your pan, set aside. Add chopped almonds, dried cranberries and the grated orange peel, stir until blended. Spread chocolate mixture into your prepared pan and cover with aluminum foil. Refrigerate the fudge for 2 hours or until firm. Remove from pan using the foil and place on a tray. Once its on the tray, cut into bite-sized serving pieces. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.Cream Cheese and Nut Fudge 2 packages (3 oz.) cream cheese, softened 2 teaspoons cold milk 4 cups confectioner’s sugar 4 squares (4 oz.) unsweetened chocolate, melted 1 teaspoon vanilla extractdash of salt 1 1/2 cups peanuts, choppedIn a medium-sized bowl, beat cream cheese and milk until smooth.

When it comes to making homemade fondue, all you really need are a few supplies. You will need: recipe ingredients, food dippers, dipping forks, and a fondue warmer pot. What is Fondue? According to Wikipedia, “It’s a Swiss communal dish shared at the table in an earthenware pot over a small burner. Diners use forks to dip bits of food into the warm semi-liquid sauce.”Suggested DippersMany foods make suitable and interesting dippers. Cut dippers into bite-size pieces. A general guideline is to allow 10-12 pieces per serving. French or Italian Bread Pretzel RodsApple WedgesBananasChunks of PineappleStrawberriesMelonsPearsPound CakeMarshmallowsCookiesCrackersEasy Chocolate 8 squares (8 ounces) semisweet chocolate 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk 1/3 c. milk In a saucepan, melt chocolate over low heat. Stir in sweetened condensed milk and regular milk until well combined. Heat through. Transfer to a pot, place over burner. (If mixture gets to thick, stir in a little milk). Spear your desired dippers with a fork, dip into the chocolate.Chocolate Peanut Butter3 1/2 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate 1 1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk 1/4 c. marshmallow creme 1 tbsp milk 1 1/2 tsp vanilla 1 tbsp. creamy peanut butterCombine baking chocolate and sweetened condensed milk in a saucepan or in the top of a double boiler. Stir constantly over low heat until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Blend in marshmallow creme and milk. Just before serving, stir in vanilla and if desired, peanut butter. Transfer to a fondue pot. Serve warm with your choice of dippers.Safety Tip Always operate the unit on a level, stable table or other flat surface. Keep away from children. Before using, always make sure handle is firmly attached and that the pot fits securely on its stand. The next time you are hosting a party or special event, I hope you will consider making some homemade fondue. Your party guests will appreciate it.

These centers are usually coated with chocolate or confectioner’s sugar.According to Wikipedia, “The word Bonbon stems from the French word ‘bon’, which means good. These days, the word Bonbon refers to several types of sweets across the world.”If you plan on giving your homemade confections as a gift or displaying them at a party, you will want to purchase mini candy boxes or mini muffin cups.

Make Your Own Candy This Holiday SeasonWhen it comes to holiday candy, I prefer to make my own. Making your own confections, is easier than you might think. When it comes to making candy, you need to prepare ahead of time. Read the recipe completely, making sure you have all of the ingredients and equipment needed. Lay out everything that you will need before you begin to prepare the recipe. Candy Making TipsHow To Crush Peppermint Candies: I find the easiest way to do this is by placing the peppermint candies in a heavy duty zipper close bag. Wrap a clean kitchen towel around the bag, then use a hammer to smash the candies. Storing Your Homemade Confections: I find it best to store my candy in the refrigerator in an airtight container. If you are worried about sticking, line your container with parchment paper.Presenting Your Confection’s As Gifts: Purchase some quality plastic containers, or some round decorative holiday theme ‘d tins. If you are using metal tins, line the bottoms with parchment paper. If you are making the Bonbons, purchase mini muffin cup liners. You can place a Bonbon in each liner, this keeps them separated and presentable. Here are 3 of my favorite Holiday Recipes. The following recipes do not require the use of a candy thermometer.Peppermint Marble Bark 6 squares semi-sweet baking chocolate 6 squares premium white baking chocolate 1 c. crushed peppermint candies Microwave semi-sweet and white baking chocolates in separate microwave-safe bowls, on high for 1 1/2 minutes. Stir until chocolates are completely melted. Stir 1/2 cup of the peppermint candies into each bowl. Alternately spoon melted chocolate onto waxed paper lined cookie sheet. Swirl chocolates together with knife to marbleize. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Break into pieces.White Chocolate Fudge with Cranberries2 pkg. (6 squares each) white chocolate 3/4 c. sweetened condensed milk 1 c. chopped almonds 1/2 c. dried cranberries 1 tbsp. grated orange peel Line a 8″ square pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over the sides of your pan, set aside. Microwave chocolate and milk in a bowl until chocolate is almost melted. Stir until chocolate is melted. Add almonds, cranberries, and grated orange peel. Stir until blended. Spread chocolate mixture into a prepared pan. Refrigerate for 2 hours until firm. Remove from pan via foil and place on a tray; cut into squares. Store in refrigerator in an airtight container.Peppermint Bonbons 1 lb. vanilla flavored confectioners coating 1/2 c. whipping cream 1 1/4 tsp. peppermint extract crushed peppermint candies In a heavy saucepan, melt confectioners coating over low heat. Remove from heat. Stir in whipping cream and peppermint extract. Beat at high speed with mixer until smooth. Chill in freezer for 25 minutes or until candy is stiff enough to be shaped. Form candy into round balls. Roll balls into crushed peppermint candy pieces. Arrange on a non-stick baking mat; let cool. Store in refrigerator in an airtight container.
